Since the first hot air ballon was seen drifting over SouthEastern Michigan over three decades ago, this unique adventure has captured the interest and imagination of countless people. From casual spectators to world class competitors. SouthEastern Michigan is among the largest ballooning communities in the United States.
SEMBA, an acronym for SouthEasterm Michigan Balloon Association, Inc., was formed as a way of bringing balloon pilots, their crew and balloon enthusiasts together. It gives us a chance to share safety and social information among the members.
As an organization we never run out of things to talk about. Technology, equipment, flying and crewing techniques, training, licensing, landowner relations, insurance and safety prcedures are a few topics most frequently discussed. Of course, we never run out of "balloon stories" to pique the imagination, not to mention the bounds of reality. While we keep up the things we enjoy the most, we never miss the opportunity to enjoy each other.
There are many benefits associated with being a member of SEMBA. -
Since we learn a lot from each other, the most important is probably the opportunity to communicate and socialize with other members. Members include balloon enthusiasts, crew, student, private and commercial pilots, FAA designated examiners, world record holders, balloon manufacturers and national & world champion pilots and competitors.
SEMBA members receive a monthly newsletter which include a wide range of information related to hot air ballooning. The membership can attend dinner speaker programs, safety seminars, monthly meetings, and much, much more. We have SEMBA apparel, balloon pins and other products that are available for purchase.
If you are interested in getting more involved in the sport of hot air ballooning, you could become a crew person for one of our pilot members. A great way to accomplish that is to become a member of SEMBA.
Remember, you do not need an invitation, just an interest in hot air ballooning to join.
So, please join!!
